John Williams Returns!
The answer fans hoped for: John Williams IS composing the score for Disclosure Day. Announced in October 2025, this marks his historic 30th collaboration with Steven Spielberg.
John Williams
At 93, Williams came out of retirement for this project. Despite announcing he was done after Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), he couldn't resist one more Spielberg collaboration. Their 50+ year partnership continues with what may be their most significant sci-fi project since Close Encounters and E.T.
"I told Steven, 'I'm done scoring films' - but I also told him if he needs me for something special, I'll always try to be there."
- John Williams (paraphrased from 2023 interviews)Spielberg-Williams Alien Scores
Williams has composed the music for all of Spielberg's major alien-themed films:
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) Oscar Nominated
- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) Oscar Winner
- War of the Worlds (2005) Grammy Nominated
Each score masterfully captured the emotional essence of first contact - wonder in Close Encounters and E.T., terror in War of the Worlds. A Williams score for Disclosure Day would bring this full circle.
Alternative Composer Possibilities
If Williams doesn't compose Disclosure Day, several composers could take on this prestigious assignment:
Michael Giacchino
Has scored sci-fi (Star Trek) and inherited franchise work. Strong emotional sensibility that echoes Williams.
Thomas Newman
15-time Oscar nominee known for atmospheric, emotional scores. Could bring unique textural approach.
Alexandre Desplat
Two-time Oscar winner. Versatile composer who has worked across genres with great success.
Ludwig Göransson
Rising star with Oscar wins. Innovative approach could bring fresh perspective to alien contact.

What to Expect Musically
Based on Spielberg's alien filmography and modern scoring trends, Disclosure Day's score will likely feature:
Emotional Themes
A central theme for humanity's reaction to contact - something that captures both wonder and uncertainty. Expect a memorable main motif that evolves throughout the film.
Otherworldly Elements
Alien contact scores often incorporate unusual instrumentation, electronic elements, or unconventional sonic textures to represent the unknown. Close Encounters famously used its five-note communication motif.
Human Drama
Character-driven emotional cues for Emily Blunt's arc and the human relationships at the story's core. Spielberg films always balance spectacle with intimate character moments.
Scale and Grandeur
Full orchestral compositions for the film's bigger moments - the revelation, first contact, climactic sequences. Spielberg's films demand scores of epic scope.
