The move was confirmed in trade reporting on May 3, 2026. UK exhibitors will begin selling tickets for Disclosure Day on Wednesday June 10 instead of the originally announced Friday June 12 slot. The US wide release on Friday June 12 remains unchanged, as does the IMAX rollout in North America.
Why Wednesday?
Wednesday openings in the UK are a specific marketing instrument. They are usually deployed when a distributor wants the film to land before the Friday-to-Sunday box-office reporting cycle so the opening-weekend number includes two extra days of grosses. Studios use Wednesday openings on event films where they expect strong word-of-mouth and want the headline opening-weekend figure to land higher than a Friday-only debut would.
Universal has used this play before. Jurassic World Dominion went Wednesday-wide in the UK in June 2022 and posted a 5-day opening that beat several US 3-day openings of the same year. The Wednesday slot is not a vote of low confidence. It is a vote that the film will play.
What This Tells Us About Tracking
UK tracking is typically tighter than US tracking in the final five weeks before release because the UK trade press is leaner and signals do not get diluted across as many publications. When Universal moves a UK date forward, internal tracking is usually showing that:
- Awareness is strong enough that an early opening will not get buried by other midweek releases.
- Word-of-mouth from press screenings (which always happen earlier in the UK) is expected to lift the Wednesday-Thursday grosses materially.
- The cast's UK press tour, anchored by Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor — both based in the UK — can be timed to land directly on top of the opening days rather than 48 hours after.
That last point matters more than the first two. Blunt and O'Connor will almost certainly be doing the UK morning shows and primetime chat circuit the week of June 8. Putting the opening on Wednesday means every one of those interviews drives ticket buyers into a theatre the same day they air, not three days later.
What It Means for US Audiences
Two days is enough time for spoilers to leak. Disclosure Day has been guarded with the kind of secrecy that included motorcycle couriers retrieving Josh O'Connor's script before breakfast. Spielberg has confirmed the entire third act has been kept out of the marketing on purpose. With UK audiences seeing the film 48 hours before the US, the spoiler firewall is going to be the entire premise of Disclosure Day's social-media discipline starting Wednesday June 10.
If you do not want the third-act reveal before you see it, the period from Wednesday June 10 to Thursday June 11 is when X, TikTok, and Reddit get extremely unsafe.
Mark Your Calendar
- Wednesday June 10: UK theatrical release. Tickets on sale at UK chains starting roughly two weeks ahead.
- Thursday June 11: US previews begin in most chains.
- Friday June 12: US wide release and IMAX rollout.
32 days out. The release window is now staggered. Universal does not move dates this close to release casually.
